Donald Trump, with the subtlety of an elephant in a china shop, announced that the solution to the war in Ukraine would be… elections. Yes, elections in a country occupied, bombed, amputated of territory, and with millions of refugees. It's like proposing a picnic in the middle of a minefield: absurd, dangerous, and above all, cynical.

What Trump is really suggesting is simple: hand Ukraine over to Putin, wrapped in the colorful paper of democracy. With ballot boxes standing next to Russian tanks, with Moscow's propaganda replacing free voices, with fear replacing hope. It would be the consecration of the old saying: "he who has the guns writes the rules."

But the grotesque part isn't just Trump. It's the American Senate — that assembly that prides itself on being the guardian of democracy in the world — watching in silence, complicit, like someone closing their eyes to a crime committed on their doorstep. The Senate's silence is more dangerous than Trump's shouting. Silence legitimizes. Silence opens the door for history to repeat itself, as it has so many times in the 20th century.

Trump offers a poisoned gift, and the Senate, instead of rejecting it, prefers to remain silent. The result? Putin watches from the balcony, smiling. America, which proclaims itself the bastion of freedom, is willing to sell an entire people to the enemy just to satisfy the whims of a political clown and a cowardly Congress.

The world has already seen this movie: first the Sudetenland, then Czechoslovakia, then Poland. Today it's called Donetsk, Luhansk, the whole of Ukraine. History will not forgive. But until then, the farce goes on: elections under the occupier's boots, "peace" made of capitulation, and a Senate that stays silent not to lose votes.

Trump lies, Putin smiles, and the Senate kneels. This is the portrait of shame.
